Two Approaches
  1. The Organization Retains the Coach
One approach is that someone representing an organization arranges to have one or more persons participate in performance coaching.
  2. An Individual Retains the Coach
A second approach is that an individual in an organization arranges to have individual performance coaching.

In general who ever initiates the contact becomes the client. The client and the coach have a unique relationship. Trust, candor and mutual commitment are at the center of the relationship. When there is a three party relationship (Client, Coachee and Coach), a clear understanding about roles and responsibilities must be established up front. For example, if a CEO initiates contact on behalf of members of his/her team, the coach has a responsibility to keep the CEO (the client) informed on issues and progress with the various participants. This would not include discussing personal issues that are not central to improvement. It might include sharing 360 Survey information if that was part of the understanding at the beginning of the assignment.
